I am an associate at Shipe Dosik Law, where I practice franchise transactional and business law.

The path that brought me to ultimately practicing law has been anything but typical. In my third year of law school, I felt a strong pull toward serving my country. The inspiration came from my brother, an Army infantryman. It was only a matter of days after being sworn in as an attorney before the Wisconsin Supreme Court that I was at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, doing push-ups before the sun came up, eating my meals in the three minutes I was given, and being pushed like never before by the Army’s best drill sergeants. What a contrast in experiences it was!

I would go on to serve six years on active duty as a military police officer. I ranked first among my Army and Marine peers, receiving the Distinguished Honor Graduate title, at the Army’s Military Police Basic Officer Leader Course, something that I was told by my superiors very few women had ever done. I deployed in 2007 to Baghdad, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and I successfully completed two company commands before I would be honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. In the end, I took more from my service than I could ever give, as the job of taking care of soldiers is one of the most rewarding tasks that I have ever been fortunate enough to have been given.

Following the Army, I embarked on the journey of business ownership. I became a franchisee, was a Franchise Advisory Council President, and gained a tremendous amount of insight into franchisee-franchisor relationship dynamics. While a franchisee, I was named Rookie of the Year and Marketer of the Year for the brand, and I was featured in articles with Entrepreneur Magazine, Franchising USA, and Quintessential Careers.

I have worked with dozens of emerging franchisor brands to date, assisting them in the structuring and preparation of Franchise Disclosure Documents and related agreements, as well as assisting franchisors in numerous other business transactions. My practical franchise business experience has proven to be useful to the clients that I serve.

In my free time, I enjoy being mom to my two young children, Matthew (6) and Lauren (5). I am a regular volunteer at my kid’s school and happily fill my time with supporting their growth and interests.
